Two British mercenaries sentenced to death

According to reports on social media two British mercenaries have been sentenced to death together with a Moroccan. While this needs independently verifying it is a strong possibility and a predictable outcome mentioned in a TASS article below. It is unlikely that a DPR court will go easy on captives considering how the people there have suffered for the last eight years.

However, I am not in favour of capital punishment, and hope their sentences are commuted should the verdict be correct. Below is the Tass report.

Mercenaries from UK, Morocco taken to DPR Supreme Court

DONETSK, June 9. /TASS/. UK citizens Sean Pinner and Aiden Aislin, as well as Morocco citizen Saadun Brahim, who are accused of participating in combat operations as mercenaries of Ukrainian armed formations, were taken to the DPR Supreme Court on Thursday for the pronouncement of their sentence.

According to a TASS correspondent reporting from the scene, the defendants entered the court territory under guard.

On June 6, the Supreme Court of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic started to consider the case of two UK citizens and a Morocco citizen who took part in military actions on the side of Ukraine.

The republic’s Prosecutor General’s Office had previously reported that as a result of the testimonies received from Pinner, Aslin and Brahim, their involvement in the crimes under Part 2 of Article 34 of the DPR Criminal Code (Crimes committed by a group of persons), Article 323 of the DPR Criminal Code (Forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power) and Article 430 of the DPR Criminal Code (Mercenary activities) was established. The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that the death penalty could be applied to the mercenaries as a punishment.

END.

Should the sentence be carried out the execution would be by firing-squad.

Update 4 p.m. 9 June 2022

The sentence has been confirmed by Russia Today but for some reason we are not allowed to read RT reports. According to TASS again they pleaded guilty on all charges.
